The park has always been a favorite place for city residents. It was founded in 1879 on the idea of the first governor of Batumi Komarov by the German horticulturist Resler. In 1888, Russian Emperor Alexander III and his wife planted the first trees in the park.

All visitors enjoy admiring the beauty and grace of proud antelopes, watching the Scottish ponies racing, curiously examining the habits of kangaroos, and cheerfully teasing monkeys and lemurs.
A significant plus to all this is the fact that most of the zoo grounds are open to the public completely free of charge.
