After a short breather, the exploration tour already starts. The first stop is the medieval city wall, which is still completely preserved and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city wall is almost 2km long, up to 6m thick and up to 25m high and offers a spectacular view over Dubrovnik's old town, the harbour and the sea. It was built in the 13th, 14th century and further extended in the 15th century as the threat of Turkish invaders grew. It encloses the entire old town and is protected by strategically located fortresses and towers. Since the eminent threat of invaders has disappeared, the walls have become a tourist highlight. The entrance fee is 50 HRK (about 7 EUR). You can either take a walk to the city wall or take a taxi.

West of the old town, on a rock over 37 metres high, is the Lovrjenac fortress. It is the symbol of the town and stands for its freedom, as it was from here that the town and the western Pile Gate were defended. Above the entrance there is an inscription "NON BENE PRO TOTO LIBERTAS VENDITUR AURO", which translated means: "Freedom is not sold for all the gold in the world". Although it is believed that the construction of the fortress began earlier, it is not mentioned in an official document until 1301. Nowadays, Lovrjenac is used as a stage for the summer festival, especially for the performance of works by Shakespeare. The entrance is free.

On the evening of your day of arrival you will go to the Amfora. Here you will be served very friendly and many local delicacies are waiting for you. The food is served very quickly and is lovingly arranged. A nice place to arrive and to let the Croatian mentality work on you. The prices are ok and the restaurant is open daily from 08:00 - 00:00 o'clock. The fastest way is to take a taxi, but walking is also a good option after many seats during the journey.
