    Valencia Cathedral

We were already here yesterday during our "Free Walking Tour", but we did not have time to go inside and climb the tower. That's what we did today - when entering the cathedral I had goose bumps, because in a side chapel the singing or the prayer could be heard. The magnificent interior is overwhelming. After visiting the cathedral we climbed up to the most famous viewpoint of Valencia - the bell tower of the cathedral. Admittedly, the ascent got us out of breath: after all, we had to climb 207 steps on an increasingly narrow spiral staircase, but it was worth the effort. From the top, one has a fascinating view in all directions - over the city, to the mountains and to the sea and all this for an entrance fee of only 2€ per person.

    Mercat Central de València

After we finished with the cathedral we went to the market hall with its beautiful floral patterns, which are a great photo motif. I could have been here for hours with my camera - haggling Spanish housewives, local delicacies and merchants who advertise their wares loudly. You feel as if you were in another world. We picked up a few souvenirs for our work colleagues and families and then headed off for lunch.

    BODEGÓ DE LA SARIETA

For lunch we went to the "Bodego de la Sarieta" - this restaurant is a real insider tip! In the middle of the winding alleys of the old town is this cosy restaurant, which has been awarded for its paella quality. Here you can also put together your own tasting menu at really reasonable prices. The food was very tasty, was freshly prepared and as a little greeting from the kitchen we got some bread with a dip. The atmosphere was very relaxed and quiet, as the restaurant is located in a small and winding alleyway. The houses provide pleasant shade and one can sit either outside or inside. It is very cozy here and the waiters are nice - they always tried and took care of our well-being.

    Plaça de Bous de València

After lunch we went to the bullring "Plaza de Toros de Valencia". The arena is just like you know it from movies and offers an impressive picture. On some days real bullfights take place here, but only a few times a year. One literally experiences a jump back to the past times. After that it was unfortunately already time to leave for the airport. Therefore, we went back to the hotel and walked with our bags the 10 minutes to the subway. We were at the airport about two hours before departure and had a lot of time left, because the airport is quite manageable and not much was going on.
